Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the creation of two brothers Koop and ray Ferwerda. The excavator was founded In the 1940's during World War II, when there was a scarcity of labourers. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted workforce due to the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing laborers to do the delicate job of grading and finishing on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to build an equipment that will save their business by making the slope grading work easier, more efficient and less manual.

Their very first design prototype was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform that was affixed on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward that allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Before long improving the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. Also, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machine to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.

Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their machinery ever since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver high productivity and comparable power to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the original Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems effectively handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.

Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to lift and dig materials. With this series, the models were made with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics which showed distinct improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed along with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators make use of an operator to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the task at hand. This makes the operator's general task easier and also conserves fuel simultaneously.

Once the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial machine market that are meant to tackle demolition, pavement removal, excavating as well as other industrial jobs. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
